What is Season 2?
From the 100 days journey, we are taking 13 Life Skills and putting
things into daily practice to make our life better, stress free and more
connected with our individual strength. It is a journey towards individual
peace and family peace by putting all the strategies, tools and techniques
together.

Why 13 weeks?
This an aged old phenomena coined by Benjamin Franklin. He formulated 13
virtues. I took the 13 from there and come up 13 Life Skills to make our life
better. Our purpose is not to become Benjamin Franklin or Gandhi, our purpose
is to live the life according to our best terms.

One of Stephen Covey quotes came to me very often. All these personal
growth things that we discussed are common sense, not commonly practised. I was
thinking on How to bring common sense into common practice in our daily life.

Background behind 13 - Thirteen Virtues
In 1726, at the age of 20,
Benjamin Franklin created a system to develop his character. In his
autobiography tp , Franklin listed his thirteen virtues as: 13 Virtues

What is purpose of daily
logs?

To ingrain these life skills, habits, techniques, we all need a
mechanism to put things into practice. As Jeff Bezos says, “Good intentions
never work; you need good mechanism to make anything happen”. That is why, we
have daily logs.

Message
from Kavitha
o
By
responding with a delay, I am becoming a better listener. Earlier, I used to
think about my dialogue in the conversation without fully listening. Now I
listen fully and then I have my time to respond.
o
It is a
simple yet powerful tool

Message
from Prabha
o
This
topic of responding by withholding the impulse to react immediately, is very
relevant to both young and old.
o
I would
like to add on my observation.
o
Sometimes,
a few people take time to think through before responding. I would suggest them
to inform the others that they need some time to process the information and
then get back. This opens up the communication channel and prevents any
misunderstanding.

Today’s topic – Respond with 10 sec delay:-
It is easy. Instead of reacting immediately, Please respond with 10 Sec
/ 30 Sec delay.
Ways of practising - Respond with a 10 Sec / 30 Sec delay
1.       We can count 1 to 10 or 10 to 1 depends on
your preference. If 10 sec is too less, we can try for 30 sec delay
2.       We can take 4 to 8 deep breaths.
3.       It is a simple yet powerful tool (Courtesy:
Kavitha)
4.       Scan your body for any emotions or stress.
Please pay attention on our face heating up, our palms getting sweaty, and our
ire being raised. With focus on our breathing, we also bring our body into a
steady state as well, calming our systems down.
5.       Release any tension in the body
6.       Be more attentive to the speaker.
7.       In spite of it, if you get hurt by somebody,
another way of reacting is, find ways get the stress, frustration out of your
system either by writing or talking to your friend.
8.       Reaction and Response happen between two
parties. Most of us are having land mines or garbage truck within us and are
waiting for an opportunity to explode or leave their trash on us. We have to
protect ourselves.
a.
Let me
share the best example that was recently shared by my colleagues Sabeena. She
was trying in a bus on the way to work. She sit in a seat that was empty. And
an old lady was cursing her all the way as she wanted her daughter to sit in
that. Sabeena did not react. She responded quietly as she had a lot of
deliverable to do that day.
9.       Protect your mornings / days: - Similar to
helmet protect your head, protect yourself in the morning hours. Do not react
unnecessary to road accidents, co-passengers in commute. The way we protect our
morning has significant impact on your daily life. Days are miniature of life.
How well we live our daily life, determines how well we live our life.
10.   All / most of us have self-talk within us,
let us follow respond approach in our self-talk so that we energies us in these
self-talks.
11.   Do not react to Whatsapp statuses, FB or
social media comments unnecessarily.
12.   By responding with a delay, I am becoming a
better listener. Earlier, I used to think about my reply in the conversation
without fully listening. Now I listen fully and then I have my time to respond.

through before responding. I would suggest them to inform the others that they
need some time to process the information and then get back. This opens up the
communication channel and prevents any misunderstanding. (Courtesy: Prabha)

Logic or Science behind this strategy:-
We have all Ambi and Aniyan within us. Psychologist says, we have an
aged old reactive brain which does fight and flight response immediately
whenever we are in danger.

Having this 10 sec delay, force us to think and respond aptly.
Ways to practice daily:-
o   Whenever we are having provoking conversation
with
o
our
spouse or family members
o
Colleagues
o
Social
media
o
Daily
commute
o
Self-talk
The way we protect our morning has significant impact on your daily
life. Days are miniature of life. How well we live our daily life, determines
how well we live our life.
During these hard moments, we can practice this 10 sec delay rule.

Tagline : Respond with a 10
Sec Delay (Be calm) in hard moments
