EP-29–Dinacharya–Put Common Sense in Daily Common Practice -Put First Th...

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week,
today being the last day of Habit3, we are going to keep Put First Things First
- Stephen covey Habit-3.

Scene-1

When I was a school
going boy, I was watching a thalaivar movie with my mom. Thalaivar was fighting
(பறந்து பறந்து அடிச்சுகிட்டு இருப்பாரு) in the movie and that was when my mother
asked me “Did I lock the door properly or Did I close our gas pipe”. I used to
get annoyed and told her to keep quiet.

How many of
you(women) are like my mom who are constantly think about family all the time.
If I add all those
women together, that is equivalent to my mom. She always thought about us. She
was a teacher in a government and raised 4 of us in the family. She did not
have any time for herself and particularly did not have time for Health ball
which I mentioned in my EP-19 (Panchathanthiram). Because she dropped her
health ball completely throughout her career while raising us. Due to which she
suffered after her retirement with disease and pain and we were all mute Spector.
Basically she dropped her health ball which was glass ball. It trashed into
pieces.

Cut… Cut… Cut…

Scene-2
I joined a Bally’s
fitness in US. My personal trainer in Gym was an experienced person. The person
was the one the most sought after trainer in the Gym. Being a tall and lean
guy, my goal was to gain weight. I gained 10 pounds in a matter of 3-6 months because
of the trainer’s direction and training the right muscle. I thanked the trainer
for achieving my health goal. Another interesting and amazing another face
about this trainer was she was an American women and a mother of two kids. She
took the glass ball that my mom dropped and trashed in her life. She made that
as a profession.

Due to few life
events I happened to stay in abroad for about 8 years in two different
countries, I noticed few things which had very stark contrast in the way of prioritizing
vs our Indian way of prioritizing health ball and other balls.

I want to throw the
following questions to women as well men.
·
How
many of Indian Women / Men with two kids spend time in their health goals?
·
How
much do they spend on this health quadrant 2.
·
Though
this is one of the glass balls, how much do we allocate on a daily basis.

I have a park in
front of my house. I use to see few men in the park on a daily basis who play Badminton
at 6am in the morning. At least few men are conscious of their health goals.

How much time our
wonder women spend for their health goals? You guys know the answer. If you
touch your heart, you guys know the answer.

If American women
can work on her health goals and be a trainer, what is happening to our Indian
women. How are we prioritizing this glass balls.

To address it, I am
sharing all the tips for weekly planning and daily planning that I learnt from
Covey.

Tips for weekly planning – it takes 20
min per week.

1.
Review
Mission and Roles

2.
Choose
Big Rocks

3.
Schedule
the week

Three steps to daily planning

1.
Check
today’s appointments

2.
Make
a realistic list

3.
Prioritize
(ABC, 123)

Tips for daily planning:-

·
When?
Before the day begins.

·
Where?
Someplace  quiet

·
How
long? 5-10 min

Covey suggests -  An effective planning system is

·
Integrated:-
the core four are all in one system – tasks, appointments, notes, and contacts.

·
Mobile:
it’s with you all the time.

·
Personalized.
It’s customized for your own needs.

Let me touch upon
other glass balls, how much time we allocate for Family, Friendship, Sprit and
career. We all know our Big rocks. How are we prioritizing our life around these
big rocks is the question that comes in front of us.

We have been
speaking about Stephen covey for the past two weeks. How many children do we
have these days? We have at least one or the max two, whereas our Stephen covey
had 9 children and 33 grandchildren. I hear “Adappavi Manushah” in Vadivel
voice. Maybe I could be the reason he came up a process and system for all of
us to follow.

In spite of his 9
children, in spite of being an author, successful entrepreneur and he was one
of the influential person in the century, he spent time in biking with his
beloved wife and loving daughter in the yesterday’s video.

Be it Stephen covey
or American Gym trainer; if there are able prioritize their glass balls (Pancha
Thanthiram), How about us. What are the best practices that we can learn from
Covey or my trainer?
Stephen Covey says,
all these habits are common Sense. But it is not commonly practised. Let us
bring common sense to common practice.

Let us all put
Quadrant2 activities in our daily life. Let us balance in our life. Let us
bring our Heros and Heroines in our daily life. Because we are ஆள போறான் தமிழன்
/
தமிழச்சி

EP-28 – Consistency is the Key-Put First Things First (Habit 3 Week) – Z...

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week, from today till next Friday (1st Nov), we are going to keep Put First Things First - Stephen covey Habit-3.

For the past few days, we spoke about என் வழி – Put First Things First வழி, secondly we spoke on life of a software engineer and yesterday we see a C-Suite view.

Today we go on Result oriented approach. How can we put everything together? I could hear your mind voice, Stephen covey can do that. What about us.

Best role model that I can think of is my mentor. He is a successful director. Around 1500 employees worked under him. He is a principle centric person. He gets up at 5am. He comes to work at 8:30am. He is even at work on 8:30am on the Chennai flood day. He is so discipline. He leaves work at 5:30pm sharp.

He is none other than Saro Velrajan(https://www.saroscorner.com/), my proud mentor. If any of you ping, he truly spends time with you to empower you or be with you. He is a truly follower of Servant leadership. He is like a வந்தாரை வாழவைக்கும் தமிழகம்.

He is an epitome of consistency, leading balanced and effective life in a consistent way. He allocates time for his health goal by getting up at 5am, He spends time with family and time for relationship. He is a fantabulous person in relationship. Though he leaves at 5:30pm, He is very successful in his career. He connected from home if required. He worked in my company wherein we are slogging for 10-12 hours… He is not only role model to me but to 1000 of his team members and time to do community services. He is the inspiring role model in my company for 1000+ employees and He has around 100 mentees any point of time.

He is so disciplined. Not only he grows, he helps other to grow passionately.

I asked what is his success mantra?.

He has pointed me to Stephen Covey.

He says few things to me. They are
• Define your mission
• Big Rocks - Do master class work on 4 things a day or 4 things a year
• Plan your week - He does weekly planning, he does daily plan.

He says consistency in small things and consistency is not a small things. In Consistency around his mission, big rocks and weekly plan.

From software engineer to CEO, this covey models give a process to plan your week effectively on your top most priority.

This is perfectly aligned with Stephen covey’s weekly planning video. Please watch that 7 min video today.

Covey says
“Once you have scheduled your big rocks for each week then each day you can zoom in and prioritize your daily tasks and appointments. You see with the right process and the right tools for weekly planning literally you can organize and execute every week of your life around your deepest quadrant two priorities. You will spend your time on those things that matter most never losing that big picture perspective that make your life so rich and so meaningful”

My mentor always end his conversation with a Zig Ziglar Quote ”You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”.

EP-27-C Suite View-வாழ்க்கை ஒரு வட்டம் - Put First Things First (Habit 3...

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week, from today till next Friday (1st Nov), we are going to keep Put First Things First - Stephen covey Habit-3.

Our team had a demo with a C-Suite person. Team worked very hard for a period of 3 to 6 months on the product launch. Each and everyone in the room gave their best for the product launch.

On the product launch, C-Suite person came to our office from USA. He is from Chennai. Before joining our company, he was a successful entrepreneur for 3 companies. He is an alumni of Anna university. Every one of our team member felt deeply connected with him as he is from “Singara Chennai” and is doing successfully in US.

During our working lunch with him, we were having Pizza. One of the star performers of the team shared his experiences that he had gone through product development. He mentioned about how he burnt his midnight oil during product launch. How he prioritized and dedicated 16 hours of hardship during the product development. Our C suite person patiently listened to him.

In the end, he opened his mouth. He said patiently and looking into the eye of the star perfomer, “You need to balance your life. I cannot help it and company cannot help it.” We were all shocked and disappointed. We worked so crazily and burnt our lives for the period of 6 months. We were expecting a kind word of appreciation whereas he spilled his beans from his experience. All of us felt very devastated. We could not eat our Pizza.

After a week, key persons in the team did deep introspection and retrospective meeting(அனுபவிக்க கூடாது ஆராயனம்).  We came with a plan to bring balance in our life.

This is where Stephen Covey’s six step process can help us.

1. Review your mission/purpose. ...

2. Define your key roles. ...

3. Identify weekly goals/choices — in writing. ...

4. Organize your time weekly. ...

5. Exercise integrity in the moment of choice. ...

6. Evaluate and learn.

Exercise for today: Please watch his video and try to implement it immediately. Best way to learn is to teach to someone in your group so that it ingrains very deeply.

Though it was very hard to digest on that day when our C-Suite person spoke about Balance and it is much needed advice to run longer in career and life.

EP-26 – Roots -Put First Things First (Habit 3 Week) – Zero to Hero 100 ...

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week, from today till next Friday (1st Nov), we are going to keep Put First Things First - Stephen covey Habit-3.

Similar to my story yesterday, if you think of a story of a software engineer / normal corporate employee, he is bombarded with so many priorities in life. He works 12-14 hours a day. Then you add 2 to 3 hours on road. By the time he comes home. He gets damn tired at around 10pm or 11pm. Then he usually spends time on Netflix series or games or social media as a way of distracting himself. By the time he hits the bed it will be in wee hours of the morning.

This was nicely depicted by one of the HR head of a reputed company. He is a morning person. He sent a message to his subordinate at around 4am in the morning so that he wouldn’t forget his schedules. He got an immediate message from his executive assistant. He thought for a moment and said Good night to his PA instead of Good morning as new gen folks do tend to sleep at 4am in the morning. That is how, Life cycle of a software engineer or by and large most our white collar folks revolve. People like us neither see Sunrise nor did Sunset as well as we hook up in office.

In spite of working 12-16 hours every day, we know our year end appraisal feedback. Most probably they always see you maintain a statue quo / new initiatives are missing or innovation is missing etc. It hurts a lot and hurts most of us in spite of putting 16 hours a day. We all got exhausted and tired in the process.

To get solutions to the problem, I prefer to go to Stephen covey. Let me give a quick overview of last two days video.

Part A takes about your first things. Covey ask as to do

1. What are your first things to you?(Just list 5 or 6)

Eg., it can be

• People

• Relationships

• Family

• Integrity

• Health

2. Covey wants you to answer these two questions

a. Think of one activity that you absolutely know that if you did it superbly well and consistently would produce marvellous results in your personal life

b. Then do the same thing for your professional / work life

Part B - Yesterday’s video is all about your priorities on Big rocks.

Lesson learnt are:

- If you do daily planning without any long term view of life, the little rocks occupies our life.

- Have an opportunity to do all the things that are important first and block out when we have a fullest amount of time available and then all the little things will fill in (fillers – you may neglect and they are not important)

- Plan your big rocks first and fillers later.

I am also attaching my cheat sheet for past two days as a quick reference.

Part C - Today’s video is the continuation of putting everything together in a time management matrix.

My mentor says, if you keep on doing the things in the same way, he will get the same results. If you want different results, we have to do things differently. I tried after hit the rock bottom in my career. My humble request is not to repeat my mistakes and learn from it and customize it. In my rebuilding approach, I plan my entire priority on Quadrant 2. That is where I want to take up Stephen covey’s today video. He takes about Living life in Quadrant 2. It is very powerful.

If you have not watched it, Please watch it or binge watch it. I prefer the piece meal approach so that we can watch covey for 10 mins and allow a day to sync in the information.

All habits are roots to our personality. Proverb says உழைப்பின் வேர்கள் கசப்பானவை ஆனால் அதன் கனிகள் இனிப்பானவை. These habits are our roots.

Day-25–என் வழி–Put First Things First வழி (Habit 3) – Zero to Hero 100 d...

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ஹீரோயின்களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week, till next Friday (1st Nov), we are going to keep Put First Things First - Stephen covey Habit-3.

It’s a 25th Episode. Today’s topics: என் வழி – Put First Things First வழி

I built a team from scratch and from ground zero. I was the first guy in the team and start building the team from scratch. We hired 5 members team. Team grew in leaps and bounds. Our team grew to a 35 member’s team. I worked till 3am in the morning during releases. I remembered an incident where I was chased by street dogs at 3am in the morning.

Everything was going good for a period of 8 years. I was in cloud nine. I thought my career was in very good shape. I visualize myself as a Director for my team.

At times in life, we get checkmate from any corner or direction. I also got a checkmate in the form of reorganization. I had two choices. One is to leave the team which I had grown from zero or start something new. I chose the second option. My career aspiration busted like a balloon was punched with a pin. I had to leave everything behind in which I pinned my hope on.

My dream and career aspiration collapsed in front of my own eyes. I was dejected, devastated and disappointed. To visualize better, I was feeling like Rajnikanth leaving his own house in Padaiappa movie.

Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay “வாழ்க்கை ஒரு வட்டம்” says, I came to the same place where I started 8 years back. I was standing alone as a lonely tree-தனி மரம் in a desert.

I had gone through a horrible experience for a period of six months. I was low in self-esteem, self-confidence. I took some short cut roots and pleasure activities to find some short term solace. Literally I was like Vikram in Sethu movie. I was mentally roaming around the streets without knowing what to do.

This is where I refer to Stephen covey’s “Put First Things First”. I did not “Put First Things First” to grow myself. This I did not grow myself to the next level. I developed my team and my business. I did not grow. I did not grow to develop my short comings like my communication, my leadership skills, speaking confidently in English and my core personality. I did not “Put First Things First” on my family, relationships and friends. Having worked 16 hours a day, I did not put “Put First Things First” on my health and spirit. We spoke about Pancha thanthiram and glass balls. I was not focussing on my right priorities and my 5 balls. I was looking my career in short term. Vijay says in Bigil movie, Failure teaches a lot of lesson than success. It is absolutely true in my case.

That is when, I took Stephen Covey. Even if you have not watched any of my previous videos, this week is very crucial in terms of execution.

Unlike other leadership gurus, Stephen covey clearly gives a sketch for us. This is time and tested for 30 years. This is the last habit in Private victory(தனி மனித வெற்றி)

I am attaching two version of Today’s video. One is the longer twelve mins version. Other is a short 4 mins version.

Please watch Today’s Stephen covey without FAIL. if you even do not watch my 5 min video it is fine, please watch his 12 mins video. His helps to plan your priorities. This helps to choose your Put First Things First in life.

Today’s exercise: watch 12 mins video of Stephen Covey.

It’s a 25th Episode. Each and every one of you is shaping me in all aspects, I visually checked my first episode and 24th episode, and I have come a long way. Credit goes to you. Thanks look smaller in front of constant help in shaping my videos and suggestions.

Day-23 – Compass & Clock (Put First Things First – Habit3).

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ம் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week, from today till next Friday (1st Nov), we are going to keep Put First Things First - Stephen covey Habit-3.

Recently I went on a trek to Kudramukh in Karnataka, We were group of 5 folks and wanted to be first person to go to the mountain top. We woke up at 4.30 am. We reached the base of the trek at 7:30am. Our aim was to be the first person to reach the summit. We were all hurrying and in urgency at the time. We did not have breakfast properly. We did not have enough water.

Towards the afternoon, we realised that we landed in a wrong mountain due to urgency. It was 10 kms one way distance, we had to go down from the wrong mountain and finally we ended up the last person to reach the summit.

We had missed the directions along the path and we did not ask anyone for directions as we were in a hurry.

Now I can relate this to Stephen covey habit. We focused on clock rather than on compass. We missed the compass altogether. Now I am again planning to do the trek to enjoy the trekking. It will be based on compass rather than on clock. Here I am getting second chance.

In the process, we did not enjoy the journey, we did not have more fun, we did not take more pictures, we did not hear more of bird’s chirp and we did not enjoy walking with bare foot. In the fastness or urgency, we did not enjoy the journey. We did not have fun. We were tired in the end and we were the last one to reach the summit.

For some of our glass balls, we do not get second chance. That is why, this habit is very important. It is integrity based on execution.

This is what mostly happens in our life as well. We ended up in a wrong mountain.

Earlier I spoke about a friend who dedicates all his life for work. Did he miss his compass.

Although Compass, clock are both important, the compass must come before the clock, because where you’re headed is more important how fast you’re getting there.

The clock represents your appointments, schedules, and activities – how you manage your time.

The compass represents your mission, direction, and values – what you feel matter most.

Compass is based on
• Effectiveness,
• Relationships,
• Important things

Clock is based on
• Efficiency,
• Schedules and
• Urgent things

Please watch Part A of Stephen Covey video.

Put The First Things First Habit 3 Part A Your First Things 27
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWh4h...

Now I want to relate to “Put First Things First” habit. It gives compass to our day-today meetings, personal life challenges etc.. We were running the clock (fastness) and missed the compass.

To me, this is my favourite habit. If anyone master habit, they can master the life.

Before conclude, Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least – Johann Goethe.

Work(Compass) first, and then Play. Have FUN in the game of Life.

EP-22 – MasterPiece - Begin with End in Mind (Habit 2 Week) – Zero to He...

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week, Today we are wrapping up Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind - Stephen covey Habit-2.

Today's topic - MasterPiece

Who are the Hero’s and Heroine’s?

I am not taking about சுத்தி சுத்தி அடிப்பேன் பறந்து பறந்து அடிப்பேன் Hero. I am taking about our எதார்த Hero like VijaySethupathi. I am not taking about SteveJobs or Sundar pichi, I talk about an ordinary person doing an extraordinary work.

Now I am visualising myself attending this person’s 80th birthday. This is what I will say.

One person is an excellent role model to me. He is not from C suite guy or a manager. From software engineer to manager, whoever has any issues, he is there for them. Be it a fresher or experienced person, he is there with them. I do not know my team members know the name of our company’s CEO. But everyone in our team knows about him.

He looks very simple. He daily travels in bus. By the first look, most of the people ignore him. Vadivelu, might says, அவனா நீ.

He is always the last person to speak in the meeting. He is not a flamboyant guy by any means. None of our top management folks know about him, but everyone in the grassroots level knows him very well. I like these attributes in him.

He comes early to work not to do his work, but to do his social service for every needy people. This is what I liked in him. One day I went to his place. I saw bunch of visiting cards which they distribute in the entrance of any IT company. I asked, why do you have this. The response he gave touched my heart. Though I may not need them, I do not disappoint the guy who stands there for 8 hours. I was awestruck by his wisdom. Hats off to Vissanth. Yes. His name is Vissanth.

He is my hero. He may be 20 years younger than me. I look at him as “Katappa looks Bhaghubali”. He wont take any into his hand, Even to this video, His reaction would be, கடமையை செய் பலனை எதிர்பார்க்காதே type.

He is similar to Karnan character in Mahabharatha. He is a guy who practices “Lead without title”

Jim colin’s best book(Good to great) talks about Level 5 leadership. He is the guy who practices Servant leadership at work.

In fact, we all of us are Masterpieces. Bring our best of the talents in every day’s act.. If you are good at humour, be the humorous person at work place, if you can sing, be the singer, if you can dance, bring the dancer in you, if you are empathical, bring that empathy. If you are going speaker, bring the speaker in you, if you are good listener, bring the best listener in you. If you are good in analytical and thinker, bring the best.

Exercise for today

Please watch just a 3 min video of Covey which talks about masterpiece.

Life gives us an empty canvas with various choices of brushes and colours.  Let us paint a beautiful picture of us which is aligned with our purpose.

Spend 10 mins for your time and decide the person whom you want to be.

Prepare your Poster(sample here): https://www.holstee.com/pages/manifesto

I want end today’s episode with Martin Luther king’s quote…

"If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well."

Bring the masterpiece in you as Martin Luther Jr king says.

EP-21 – Choose Daily Decisions based on BWTEM - Begin with End in Mind (...

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ம் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும் வணக்கம்.

Theme for the week, from today till next Friday (25th Oct), we are going to keep Begin with the End in Mind - Stephen covey Habit-2.
Begin with the end in Mind

I watched a movie Pudukkottaiyil iruthu Saravan in which the main protagonist was riding a Pulsar, and all of a sudden, I got a desire to buy “Pulsar”. I called my friend immediately to get his suggestion on which model should I pick. He said “Go to the two wheeler parking lot in your office and decide a model”. AH ! That was easy. How come I didn’t think about it? Next day I visited the parking lot, and I saw nearly 1000 different two wheelers parked in the parking lot.

Innumerous choices… what should I pick?! .

I was confused, confused and confused.

I didn’t realize that choosing a two wheeler would become so complex! I could not finalize which one to buy. I visited the parking lot almost 3 weeks in a row… the more time that I spend in the parking lot, the more confused I became. Finally, I gave up the idea of buying itself.
Weeks passed. I met my close friend on a Friday night after dinner. I spoke to my friend about my problem.

I showed him a picture of Dhoni with Laxmi Rai in a sexy sports bike. I expressed my temptation of buying sports bike.

He went on in a full flow. He asked, “Were you buying the sports bike to pick up girl friends? Like movies, I shake my heads like No followed by Yes.[Head gesture]

He said, even if you managed to find a GF she was bound to say “My age is your exp”. Then I agreed to that

Next question he asked “were you going to ride 0 to 60 kms in 30 sec in the Spencer’s signal. I said big no.

He laughed at me and asked, “What is your purpose of buying a two wheeler”. That opened my eyes … “I did not even think about it, all along”. He gave a clue to narrow down top 3 reasons to buy a two wheeler. I did that – my top 3 reasons were … (1) Drive to a nearby distance to drop my kids at school (2) My wife can also ride the two wheeler (3) Maneuver very easy in the morning traffic. It made my decision making process very easy !

I came home that night, I put together my end goal and purpose by mentioning top 5 features which I wanted in my two wheeler. Next day I visited 3 dealers and bought a scooter. My purpose was a convenient family vehicle for me and my wife to drive to a nearby distance.

Friends… this technique isn’t just useful to buy a two wheeler. It could be any decision that we make in life… with the availability of so many choices around us. It could be buying 4 wheelers, or 3 bedroom flat, or finding your one right partner.
Do you begin with the end in Mind
• At the start of every meeting?
• When you plan a new year, week, or day?
• When you begin a new project?
• When you plan a vacation?
• Before you begin a crucial conversation?
• Before you do your Great Indian Festival Shopping?

Let us begin with the end in mind in our day today-decisions.
Exercise: Start living by this habit2 in our daily decisions.

EP-20 – Pancha Thanthiram Part2 (பஞ்சதந்திரம் 2 )- Begin with End in Mind (Habit 2 Week) – Zero to Hero 100 days Personal Transformation Journey

எல்லா ஹீரோக்களுக்கும் ம் ஹீரோயின் களுக்கும்
வணக்கம்.

We have
successfully travelled 20 days together.

Theme for the week,
from today till next Friday (25th Oct), we are going to keep Begin
with the End in Mind - Stephen covey Habit-2.

Today we are going
to delve deeper on our Panchathanthiram Part2. Begin with end in mind, We are
going to create poster for your life encompassing all your 5 panchathanthiram
by the end of today’s episode.

It is more like a
compass than a clock. We all are running faster than clock thereby harming
ourselves. This gives compass to live an effective life.

It is Living life
by Design than default. It is Deciding “What is important?, What is not
important?. By following Habit2, we are going to envision outcomes before you
act. Covey says, “Mental creation precedes physical creation”. It is about
bringing the best Quality of life and Bring the best (HERO) in you.

Similar to Nagesh
in Thiruvilaiyadal movie, I am good at asking questions. I do not know the
answers. Answers always come from you. I put together some questions. Take top
3 questions and come up with a tweet message so that you can create the poster.

1st  Ball of life - Family(Glass ball):-
If we keep family is
our first ball, are we giving enough priorities. Most of times, we take the
loved ones for granted. I did this mistake quite often. I have given more
importance to my onshore director than my daughter’s commitment or wife’s
commitment which I realized it in a hard way. Adhere to your commitments to
family.
  •          What
    are the top three goals?
  •          How do
they describe you in your 80th birthday?
  •          What is
your influence on his or her life that they can talk about in your 80th
    Birthday?
  •          What are
your qualities/attributes that is admiring in you/them that they can talk about
    in your 80th birthday?
  •          What do
    they want?
  •          How to  bring more love in families
  •          How to bring
    more happiness in families
  •          How to
    bring more fun in families
  •          How to
    bring more relaxation in families.
  •          How can
I help each person in the family to bring their best talents/skills so that
they can live their life to the fullest?
  •          What
are the ways I am respecting my family/family members
  •          What are
the things that I can do on a daily basis so that they feel valued in the family?
  •          What
are the ways I can avoid to take them for granted approach?
  •          How are
we treating each other in the family?
  •          How can
we grow collectively as a family so that we can be the role model in our circle?
  •          How can
I bring more fun in the family?
  •          How are
    empowering our family members?

2nd Ball of Life – Friendship – GLASS Ball:-
  •          How do
they describe you in your 80th birthday that they can talk about in
    your 80th birthday?
  •          What is
your influence on his or her life that they can talk about in your 80th
    birthday?
  •          What are
your qualities/attributes that is admiring in you/them that they can talk about
    in your 80th birthday?
  •          Who are your significant friends?
  •          How much time are we spending with them?
  •          What are things we do to strengthen our
    relationship?
  •          What is the foundation of friendship?

Dr. Ruthdran, Psychiatrist says, Both person have to grow in
any relationship. That is the fundamental of any relationship. How are we
growing together.

3rd Ball of Life – Health – GLASS BALL:-
  •          What are our short term goals?
  •          What are our long term goals?
  •          How to bring healthy habits in our day-today
    life?
  •          What can I do better to feel energized throughout
    the day?
  •          How are my food habits?
  •          What are my healthy food habits?
  •          What are my unhealthy food habits?
  •          What can I do to address it?
  •          How many hours of sleep do I have on a daily basis?
    Is it adequate?
  •          Am I having quality and undisturbed sleep?
  •          Am I compromising on my sleep?
  •          What are things that I can do to feel energise
in the morning, during the day?
  •          How are my sitting postures at work?
  •          How many hours do I sit at work? (News:  Sitting is the New
    Smoking
    - https://www.startstanding.org/sitting-new-smoking/)

4th Ball of Life - Spirit/Emotional – GLASS Ball:-

My friend said, he had burnt his midnight oil to buy Bigil at
1am. It is always get to spend time with family rather at work. Are we
addressing self / our family member’s feelings and emotions? Are we spending
enough time to address our own emotions/feelings?
  •          What are the thoughts that impact my sleep?
  •          How am I feeling every day?
  •          What are my good feelings?
  •          What are my bad feelings?
  •          How is my feeling impact my daily life?
  •          What is my dominant feeling in the morning,
    evening and night?
  •          Do I have a pattern in my feeling?
  •          What can I do to feel better?
  •          What are circumstances/friends/criticism
    impacting my feelings?

5th Ball of Life – Career – It’s a rubber ball:-

Most of us do the mistake of keeping Career as the first
ball. One of my subordinate team members was very happy yesterday as he
responded to a Whatsapp message at 3am in the morning in my one-2-one with him.
I appreciated his commitment. In the end, I asked him, “Where is that
expectation coming from to respond to messages at 3am”. As a manager, I am not
expecting him to respond to Whatsapp messages at 3am. He was startled for a
moment and then he said, he was habituated that way. In my company, we expect
our team members to do their 8 hours of duty in the most engaged which is good
enough for business. That is the expectation from the company. I need some
subordinate to have a balanced life. Do not burn your midnight oil unnecessary.
Do not take cell phones to your bedroom please.
  •          What are my strengths?
  •          What are my core skills?
  •          What is my expectation in my role?
  •          Am I overstretching myself or doing more than by
    burning my midnight oil?
  •          Am I generalist or specialist?
  •          What are things that I can do to specialize my
    skills, knowledge?
  •          Am I a leader or follower?
  •          Am I playing a victim role or empowered role?
  •          How am I shaping?
  •          Am I in the latest/state of art technology?
  •            What are my gaps to scale up my skills in the
next 6 months to 3 years?

Poster: Create
a poster encompassing your five secrets to life (Pancha Thanthiram)
I want to end with Ralph Waldo Emerson poem which is close
to my heart.

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of the intelligent people

And the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics

And endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;

To find the beauty in others;

To give one’s self;

To leave the world a bit better,

Whether by a healthy child,

A garden patch,

Or a redeemed social condition;

To have played and laughed with enthusiasm

And sung with exaltation;

To know that one life has breathed easier

Because you lived here….

This is to have succeeded.”
              ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Emerson says, “Success is to know that one life has breathed
easier because of you”. Shall we?.
