EP-64 – Be Strong (like
Bheema) in the hard moments
- Sharpen
the Saw
- Habit-7 – Zero to Hero 100 days Personal
Transformation Journey

We are in
Episode 64.

இந்த YouTube channel லை வாழ வைக்கும் தெய்வங்களாகிய எல்லா
ஹீரோயின்களுக்கும், ஹீரோக்களுக்கும்
வணக்கம்.

I keep Steven covey
as a general theme. Individual episode can be viewed separately for any new comer
to this channel, or can be viewed it as a series.

Common Theme for
the week (from 30th Nov till 6th Dec) – Sharpen
the Saw – Habit 7 (Courtesy: Stephen
Covey).

Today is the last
day for Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw.

Habit 7 is a habit
of renewal (பட்டையை தீட்டுங்க;
பட்டையை கிளப்புங்க).

As today is the last day for Habit7.
Let me share few of my personal experiences on overcoming temptations, obstacles;
test your commitment, vulnerability a lot.

We have to Be Strong in the Hard
moments. Recently my company organized a medical camp for all employees. We are
around 6000+ employees. They did free BP, Sugar, Skin, Eye, Bone, ECG etc etc.
At the end of all tests, we were all got a doctor’s appointment.

My turn came, I went inside
Doctor’s office. She asked me, what is your problem?. I said very strongly, I
do not have any problem. Doctor was shocked and stunned. She did not speak for
few mins. She asked again, what is your problem. I told her, I am hale and
healthy. She looked at my report and asked me to leave as she cannot make money
from me.

Before the visit, I waited for two
hours.. Every other employees were discussing about their problems in details,
it could be hair fall or skin issues etc etc. May be that could be reason, the
doctor was stunned in my case. In my opinions, if you are not strong in the
hard moments and not strong on your habits. Then it is the time for Saneeswara
bhagavan (
சனீஸ்வர
பகவான்
would dance on your head.
) to dance on your head. I am not criticising
the doctor/corporate doctors.. we have to be strong otherwise corporate doctors
would confuse you and provide you with a list of tests to be done. Think about
it.

Every new year I make new year
resolutions. It won’t even last for 10 days. I always feel like a small rat
when it comes to discipline and honouring my commitment.

We are wrongly wired between
pleasures and pain. We think, Physical exercise as Pain whereas the daily pains
are the only gives long term pleasure. Daily pleasure centric activities if it
is harmful, will give long term permanent pains. Overcoming mind over mattress
was the biggest challenge for me. I use to keep someone as my benchmark so that
I get their best practices and inculcate their best practices.

Secondly, Our mind is a two edged
sword.. It can be used to Sharpen the Saw or our own thoughts becomes harmful
to our being(
ஆக்கவும்
செய்யும்
அழிக்கவும்
செய்யும்).
We become too critical on us. In addition of meditation, exercise, the greatest
stress management is living life on meaning, purpose, contribution or run
behind your passion. It can be a hobby or anything that turn you on a daily
basis.

Ø
Stress – common
suggestions are meditation, via feedback, exercise and so forth.

Ø
Covey says, the
greatest stress management ID is meaning, purpose, contribution, a life that
turns you on, work that turns you on, a cause that turns you on(Study Hans Selye
work)

Ø
The importance
of having meaningful projects and contributions to never retire to leisure,
retire to projects that are meaningful that excites you that contribute that
add value that make a difference

You can watch daily private victory
videos from Stephen covey’s son.

Effective People
Lessons
learnt:
Ø
Habit 7 is about
preserving and enhancing the single greatest asset you have…. YOU!
Ø
Sharpening the
saw each day in each of the four dimensions is called the Daily Private Victory
Ø
Have you ever
been too busy driving to take time to get gas

Be Strong in the Hard Moments
As we attempt to renew ourselves
regularly, we will encounter obstacles, such as feeling we’re too busy to
Sharpen the Saw or lacking enough self-discipline to stick to our commitments.
These are the hard moments, and include such things as:
·
Getting up on
time (mind over mattress).
·
Controlling your
temper and not saying the unkind thing.
·
Disciplining
yourself to eat healthy.
·
Sticking to your
reading regimen when you’re busy.
If you can discipline yourself to
make it through these few hard moments, you will reap great rewards.
1.
Pick one of the
four renewal activities you just identified. ________________________________

2.
What obstacles
or hard moments might you encounter as you do this activity?

3.
How will you
overcome these obstacles or hard moments?

Ø

relative you haven’t talked to in years. (Emotional / Social)
Ø
Write a note to
someone special, someone you haven’t had contact with for a long time. Tell
that person how much he or she has influenced you and why you feel such appreciation
(Emotional / Social).

Be Strong (like Bheema) in the hard moments
Ø
For covey, have
a life cyle. Covey gets up early; he doesn’t like getting up that early. In
fact it’s miserable but Covey has learned that if I can be strong in just about
three or four hard moments,
everything else is a piece of cake.
Ø
One of those
hard moments is getting up early
Ø
And getting on
that life cycle.
Ø
And just start
pedalling
Ø
Covey hates
biking really but you know why he likes it because I can read
Ø
Covey used to
run till he messed up his knees
Ø
He really had
more enjoyment in the activity itself of running but I can read with the bike
Ø
So covey has a
whole library right behind his bike
Ø
He has trained
himself to go through 3,4,5 books a week
Ø
From 5:30 to
6:30 every morning to me it’s daily private victory
Ø
Now that may not
fit your schedule or your approach
Ø
But think about
what is it that you can do to win the private victory so that you’re strong in
the hard moments and
Ø
You nurture
yourself and develop your mind and conscience
Ø
Before you even
encounter life, before you even encounter other people
Ø
Some people do
it later in the day, the logistics is always different for different people and
the methods & the approaches.

Exercise: Take one
dimension and identify your obstacles and overcome it.
Tagline for today:
Be strong like Bheema in the hard moments

Conclusion:-
Our life is
full of stresses. Stress.. Stress.. Stress… To overcome stress, I like to
follow Stephen covey strategy on working on meaning, purpose or pursue a hobby or
passion.

This I could
relate it with Abdul Kalam saying, it is the best stress management strategy.

“Dream is not that which you see while sleeping it
is something that does not let you sleep.”
